A walk through the Biellese vineyards
The travel day by day
08.30 – Morning group meeting with all participants in Vigliano Biellese and beginning of the journey with a trip to the Castle of Montecavallo, erected by Filiberto Avogadro in 1830; today a renowned winery in the district of Biella.
It’s vineyards extend for a few hectares on the hillside in Vigliano; a rich soil with high levels of “ferretto” create a specific and unique terroir that lead to Nebbiolo. The walk along the hill continues reaching Ronco Biellese and, from there, a gentle downhill hike towards Valdengo sets an end to the morning.
Lunch picnic at Villa Era.
Once an ancient rural agglomeration of single dwellings, Villa Era had been restored and transformed into an elegant residence at the end of the nineteenth century. The vineyard dates back several centuries old and the homonymous wine is produced from the grapes harvested today.
Our itinerary continues in the direction of Quaregna, a town that dates back to the sixth century and was home to Amedeo Avogadro, the famous scientist. From there to Castellengo, a small town renowned for its vineyards and wineries, followed by an afternoon break accompanied with local delicacies (merenda sinoira) in Cascina Preziosa. This winery hosts three hectares of land enriched by ancient seabed remains, which are also the secret leading to the final quality found in traditional vines such as Nebbiolo, Barbera and Vespolina; all elegant and among the finest of italian wines, appreciated all over the world.
Late afternoon shuttle bus transfer from Castellengo to Vigliano Biellese.
