Autumn in the Langhe, land of vineyards and truffles

Truffle, wine and poetry…

Autumn is gentle:

“It’s no longer hot, not cold yet, some clouds in the sky, the air smells of wine must”

(Cesare Pavese)

Forestalled by their tabui (truffle dogs), the trifolau (truffle hunters) look for the diamond hidden in earth.
Autumn is the most beautiful period to visit the Langhe. Vineyards colours alternate with the warm shades of the leaves in the woods. We accompany you in search of truffles and to the discovery of stories of winemakers, with their feet firmly on the ground and with big dreams. We will sip the nectar of the Gods accompanied by their tales about men who dedicate their lives to vines. This is for us the meaning of going to wineries.
A journey into the essence of the Langhe, with the poetry of Cesare Pavese, who depicted this wonderful land.

The travel day by day

Itinerary in Piedmont

Day 1

Meeting in Canelli. We start our tour by visiting the town. We are in the capital of Moscato and sparkling wine and we have the possibility to enter the historical cellars, excavated in tuff rock, known as “underground Cathedrals” and part of the Unesco World Heritage.
Transfer to Bubbio, check-in at the hotel. Accommodation in double or single rooms with private bathroom.
We reach now a family run winery famous for having obtained the first certification for organic grown grapes. An excellent welcome dinner awaits us, carefully prepared with local selected products by the “agrichef” Paola.

Day 2

Today we go to Santo Stefano Belbo. A coffee break in a historic bar in the main square takes us inside the soul of the town. Cesare Pavese, one of the greatest Italian writers and poets of the 1900s, was born here. We walk towards the Cesare Pavese Foundation, where a guide we accompany us to the discovery of Cesare Pavese, his life and his work. Lunch is in an excellent restaurant with a Langhe menu. After lunch we immerse ourselves in the Pavesian paths, with readings in some of the places he wrote about.
At sunset we enjoy a wine tasting at a small local producer. Sipping the “nectar of the gods” we admire the sunset over the hill alla round and thier perched hamlets.

Day 3

We dedicate the day to the truffle hunting. In a private van we reach our trifolau and his tabui, the truffle hunter and his dog. Tabui is a special truffle dog, with an exceptional nose. In their company we enter the fragrant autumn forest and we set out in search. A beautiful experience between colours, scents and joy. If we find the truffle we can buy it and in the evening delight us with a dish prepared by our chef.
After lunch, we visit Mombaldone, one the nost beutiful ancoient vollages in Italy, Cessole and San Giorgio Scarampi.

Day 4

We visit Roccaverano, the small capital of the Langa Astigiana. The town stands on an isolated hill. On clear summer days you can see the Ligurian Sea from the high tower. We stroll around the alleys, every house, door and church – note the beautiful façade of the main church, designed by Bramante – tells a story. Roccaverano is famous for the robiola, the local goat cheese. We visit a small producer and taste the special robiola. We return to Bubbio in time for dinner.

Our visit in the Langhe ends here. It’s time to say goodbye. In our eyes and hearts we will keep the colours and the flavours we met during our stay.
