Travel in Piedmont, around the Langhe by bike

There is a life to live …
There are bicycles to ride …
Roads to face and sunsets to enjoy

(Cesare Pavese)

A few lines by the great author and poet Cesare Pavese are the ideal viaticum to push us to discover the Langhe hills. The perfect time to cycle along the ridges of the hills, where Spring breaks and Autumn fill the countriside with every shadow of red and yellow.
The sun heats up without bothering, the great art of cooking and the wellknown wines of the area delight us once we get off the bikes.

The travel day by day

Itinerary in Piedmont

Day 1

Meeting in Canelli. We start our tour by visiting the town. We are in the capital of Moscato and of “spumante”, sparkling wine. We have the possibility to go inside the historical cellars, excavated in tuff rock, known as “underground Cathedrals” and part of the Unesco World Heritage.
In Canelli we meet Maramao, a social cooperative, which combines agriculture and social commitment.

Transfer to Bubbio, check-in at the country-house. Accommodation in double or single rooms with private bathroom.
We reach now a family run winery, famous for having obtained the first certification for organic grown grapes. An excellent welcome dinner awaits us, carefully prepared by the “agrichef” Paola. She selects local products to cook her amazing dishes.

Day 2

After the excellent breakfast, our guide – member of the National Mountain Bike Academy – awaits us.
We will receive information about the route and we are ready to start. Let’s go and discover the Langhe riding our ebikes. The exclusive tour created for us will last the whole day. We set off from Bubbio, directed towards Santo Stefano Belbo (birthplace of Cesare Pavese, one of the greatest Italian writers and poets from the twentieth century). We head now towards Calosso, up and down the Moscato hills. We stop for a light lunch and we leave for Pieve del Salto. From here we go towards Canelli and, along minor roads, we return to Bubbio.
Back to our farmhouse where, while waiting for dinner – local Langhe specialties will be in the menu – we can taste a glass of one of the excellent local wines (optional).
Overnight in the countryhouse. Double room with private bathroom.

Day 3

After breakfast we ride to the nearby WWF Oasis. We stroll through the vineyards and fields and breathe the Langhe atmosphere. We visit an ancient cellar and taste its special wines. We meet the producer family and their passion in “making” wine.
Let’s go back to Bubbio for lunch. We can make some shopping of local products before saying goodbye.
In our eyes and in our hearts we’ll keep forever the people, the colors and the flavors we met in this special land, the Langhe.
