Day 3

Breakfast and departure for San Pio delle Camere. We are meeting Letizia: she lives here but she has moved for love. She produces saffron. We are focusing with her on the process of collection, selection and drying of the saffron.

Lunch and, in the afternoon, visit to the Oratory of San Pellegrino in Bominaco, named the “Sistine Chapel of Abruzzo” for the medieval frescoes, true wonder for the eyes. Later on, we are taking a walk in the archaeological site of Peltuinum, an ancient Roman city on the path of the Tratturo (shepherds’ tracks).

Afterwards, we are moving to Navelli, a medieval village located in a strategic position on the route of the “Tratturo Magno from L’Aquila to Foggia”, which is the ancient way of transhumance.

Meeting with Francesca and accommodation in her bed & breakfast. To follow dinner in Serena’s holiday farm, one of the 10 inns in Abruzzo present in Slow Food guide for many years, as well as in the edition of 2019.

Day 4

Breakfast and departure for Gran Sasso Laga National Park. Visit of Rocca Calascio Castle, at 1.460 metres of altitude and one of the 10 most beautiful castles in the world according to National Geographic’s ranking.

We are then moving to the village nearby, Santo Stefano di Sessanio, where we are meeting Mirella, expert in medicinal plants and botany. Traditional cooking workshop and lunch.

Back to Fontecchio guesthouse and dinner.

Day 5

Breakfast and departure towards the “Altopiano delle Rocche” upland plain, in the heart of the Sirente-Velino Regional Nature Park. At 11.00 am, meeting Cristina and visiting her farm.

Sensorial tasting and hands-on-dough workshop with the art therapist Sara.

Lunch at the farm and, in the afternoon, transfer to “Piani di Pezza” upland plain for a walking tour through the untouched nature of the park. Back to the guesthouse in Navelli.

After dinner we are meeting Silvana and joining her felt storage-box making workshop.

Day 6

Breakfast and then departure towards Amiternum, a Roman archaeological site located a few kilometers west from the city of L’Aquila.

Visit of the Roman theatre and amphitheatre rests and of the small antiquarium with Alessia. Afterwards, we are meeting Gabriella in her ceramic atelier.

Lunch, goodbyes and participants’ departure.
